UPVC doors use a multi-point locking system — typically three or five locking points running up the door edge. When the gearbox inside the door fails, the handle either drops, won't lift, or the lock points won't engage.
This is one of the most common call-outs we get. The door is usually still secure but won't lock from the outside, which is urgent if you need to leave the property.
We carry a range of gearboxes, handles, and cylinders for common UPVC door brands. In most cases we can complete the repair in a single visit. Labour to repair or open a lock starts at £149 plus parts. A mechanism case (gearbox) replacement is £144–£594; a full multipoint mechanism replacement is £399–£1,359 depending on the door and security spec.
